Dave LaGrow
Berrien Coalition
Panelist

Dave LaGrow is a lifelong resident of Southwest Michigan. His interest in the trade started in his high school trades program. Coloma Schools has a very active tool and die program that exposes students to the positive attributes of the trades. During high school David worked as a part-time employee at a local tool and die shop. His interest grew in tool and die and thought that he wanted to learn more. He started an apprenticeship program at Lake Michigan College and finished after two years. He worked at a few shops before realizing that he wanted to start his own business. With his life savings he started a mold polishing shop (Maximum Mold) in 1996 in his hometown. In 1998, David bought his first CNC machine. In the worst economic times of the trade in 2009, David expanded his business and moved to a neighboring community where he purchased a former tool and die building. With his entrepreneurial spirit and foresight, he has grown his business into a 18 man shop and diversified his business. Maximum Mold is a manufacturer of plastic injection molds, die cast dies and trim dies with polishing capabilities. Maximum Mold serves the auto, agriculture, food, and appliance industies. Maximum Mold became part of the Berrien Tooling Coalition in 2005. They realized the tool and die trade would no longer be "business" as usual due to increasing global competition. The BTC is a group of 19 companies that work together to promote the trade and grow and expand their businesses.
